Product Name: Store Stacker
Description: Affiliate store site builder script.
Most important feature: Pulls products and video from multiple affiliate product sources.
Summary: A few quibbles noted below, but still a very useful script that has saved me quite a bit of time. The learning curve was short, though I already have years of experience building sites using many platforms. And I already understand SEO and keywords. The installation video and tutorials available should be enough for most people to get their first site up and running in a day. A site with hundreds or thousands of pages, or products, from a variety of sources. The feature set is customized for affiliate niche websites. I spent more time modifying the template than actually building the stores. A great tool for affiliate site gurus, and still useful for beginners. You can (as you should) spend more time researching a niche and keywords and marketing your sites.
Version: Zip file dated Sept. 18, 2008 (includes the August 3, 2009 update for the Amazon WebServices Secret Access Key in the free Amazon plug-in included with the core files)
Pricing: Unlimited domain license / $97 (August 2009)
Includes eBay, Amazon and YouTube plugins.
Not always available for sale. A limited number of StoreStacker scripts are available for sale periodically.
Plugins: ClickBank $25, RSS $25, RegNow $25, Overstock $25, HotelClub $25, Paydotcom $25. Commission Junction $25 1st month (then $10 monthly).

Requirements:
Store Stacker is a server-based application. You need to install the script on your server or host account. So, you need at least one domain and a hosting account that supports:

*nix box (Linux, Free BSD, …)

PHP (version 5 for latest Amazon integrated plug-in)

MySQL

Zend Optimizer

Might not work at this time with GoDaddy, Yahoo! or Bravenet hosting accounts. I say might because often users don’t know how to add Zend or how to set up cron jobs on servers. I was told it would not run on 1and1 and not only does it run fine, but I started seeing results the first day.

I can vouch first-hand that StoreStacker works perfectly with 1and1 (manually install Zend) and HostGator (Zend pre-installed) hosting accounts. Friends using SiteStacker with Hostmonster (Free Domain, Free Setup, Host Unlimited Domains $6.95) are also pleased.

User Requirements: Basic understanding of HTML, FTP, and Cron Jobs.

Pros:

Automates the tedious task of pulling in products and content from multiple sources. You can literally pull in thousands of products or pages in minutes with little effort.

Products can be updated automatically via cron jobs. Nice touch!

Built-in SEO options are very good.

Unlimited number of installs (sites).

You can use StoreStacker to build a stand-alone site or insert the products into existing static sites or sites built on other platforms such as WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, etc..

Affiliate links are embedded and automatically cloaked.

The administrative interface is simple and mostly intuitive.

Built-in widget creation, Adsense-like ads to place in outside sites.

Pull in targeted YouTube videos with included plugin.

The RSS content plugin ($25) is great for adding relevant content about your niche.

SiteStacker easily lets you add static pages to your site for adding extra or fresh content.

Cons:

The videos are good for beginners, and there is some help available in the forum, yet an FAQ or Knowledge Base would be really helpful. You can always send private email to support, But I prefer to browse and find my own answers. I don’t like to wait!

The 14 templates are okay, but rudimentary. More layouts would be useful. Changing colors and headers and images for included templates is not difficult. Changing layouts requires much more skill as it uses the Smarty template engine.

The Amazon categories do not match the included plug-in categories. Perhaps the Amazon API does not detail all of the categories? So far, I have noticed the following categories do not exist in the software; Toys and Games, Musical Instruments, Automotive. Here is the list of top-level of categories included in StoreStacker; All
Books
DVD
Home Improvement
Music
Video
Cell Phone & Services
Software
Electronics
Magazines
Apparel
Home & Garden
Health & Personal Care
Jewelry
Watches
Skin Care
Video Games
Kitchen & Housewares
Outdoor Living Features
Electronics Features
Sports & Outdoors
Baby Store
MP3 Downloads

Installation:
Not difficult if you are familiar with FTP. Very good Step-by-step installation video/documentation.

Documentation:
Video tutorials are available on the SiteStacker website for installation, overview, shop setup, categories setup, product manipulation, template manipulation, seo rules, and more.

What you also need to know:

Build in place! Moving a site from one domain or sub-domain to another is difficult to impossible. Requires multiple changes in database and files.

You will install the SiteStacker script and connect to a MySQL database for each site (store) you are building.

To access the back-end of your StoreStacker site, type http://yourdomain/admin.php

Add Google Analytics code to your template footer.tpl file. Place the google script inside literal tags (that you add) at the bottom, before the existing </body></html> tags.

{literal}
..google analytics code..
{/literal}
</body></html>

When categories at Amazon do not match the categories in StoreStacker, you can use the ALL category and try to refine your search terms to pull the products you want. Results vary from good to poor. Remember if you select the ALL category, that you must also put your search term in the lower box (will have the word ALL in it) as well. note: This annoyance seems to be caused by a combination of changes to the Amazon API that are not announced. I have emailed the developers and let’s see when they plan to update this latest batch of changes.

Updating your software is a clunky manual prospect. The developers promise to automate that process in the future.
